Leeds United have reportedly made a move in their bid to sign Juventus forward Lois Openda ahead of the new season.

The Whites are aiming to build on a strong return to the Premier League by adding serious firepower to their attack at Elland Road.

Ascending last May, Daniel Farke's side continued to shift through the gears, before they secured survival at a relative canter.

This warranted a 14th-place finish - a far cry from some of the worries felt in the season's first half.

Leeds recruited well last summer, with all incomings having an impact at some point of the campaign.

They look to do so again, and have made a big step when it comes to long-standing target Openda.

Leeds take common sense approach with Lois Openda question

Earlier this year, Leeds were mentioned as a possible destination for Openda, with Nottingham Forest and Coventry City also linked.

As per TuttoSport, Leeds remain in the race to sign Openda, with Juventus' phone non-stop ringing as enquiries are made for a summer deal.

The Whites are said to have asked for "as much information as possible", while the finances should be no issue.

The Belgian spent last season on loan at Juventus, but ended up racking up just 652 league minutes - scoring once, though the Bianconeri still had to bring him in permanently from RB Leipzig.

Despite this, he does remain highly rated, having scored 41 times in 93 Leipzig appearances, while he has 107 goals in 320 career matches.

And looking ahead to a potential move to Elland Road, he may fit a crucial criteria as the Whites continue to aim higher.

Openda's arrival could open gates for flood of new high-profile signings

Over the course of last season, Leeds continued to settle into the Premier League, before looking like a seasoned top flight outfit by the end.

However, this was the case upon their 2020 return, before the Whites failed to build on it.

From here, the West Yorkshire outfit must do it all to avoid a similar route, which ended in their 2023 relegation.

After such smart recruitment last summer, Openda would be the perfect statement-type signing to begin raising the club's status.

Not only is the chance there for him to rebuild his career, but it could convince talent across the continent that Elland Road is the place to be in the coming years - aiding the club massively as they look to climb the standings and progress.
