Helder Costa could leave Leeds United after transfer deadline passes

Helder Costa is still expected to depart Leeds United permanently this summer, but it could happen after the deadline passes according to Graham Smyth.

Writing on the Yorkshire Evening Post official website (1 September), the journalist reports that the Portugal and Angola international is yet to find a new club to leave Elland Road for.

But with a move to the Middle East expected and their transfer deadline running until September 7th, a departure is still expected for the 2020 £15m signing.

“Costa has not yet secured a move away and might not today, but with the Saudi Pro League’s transfer window running later than the one in which Leeds operate his departure is still anticipated,” they wrote.

“FIFA list the Saudi Pro League transfer deadline day as Wednesday September 20, although the league’s website itself says teams have until Thursday September 7 to sign players.”

Phew

With all the talk about first-team wingers potentially leaving this summer, this is a deal that a lot of people simply forgot about.

Daniel Farke has already confirmed that the player and the club are on the same page about his future and that he is expected to leave, but with no club he is still under contract.

Clubs in Saudi Arabia and Qatar have been linked with his signature though and because of his situation, it’s clear they are prioritising other deals before dealing with him.

But before their deadline passes one of them is likely to get him to put pen-to-paper on a deal that would finally see him bring to an end his disaster of a spell at Elland Road.

He hasn’t played for the club since a single appearance in the 2021/22 season and thankfully, nobody expects him to play for us again. That’s one less thing to worry about before the deadline at 11pm.
