Harry Redknapp: Leeds United 'desperate' to keep Jack Harrison as £40m transfer news emerges
Leeds United will be “desperate” to stop Jack Harrison from leaving Elland Road in the final days of the summer transfer window, according to Harry Redknapp.
Harrison, 25, was in stunning form as Leeds won 3-0 against Chelsea on Sunday (21 August), scoring his first goal of the season and supplying an assist for the third consecutive game.
He’s been strongly linked with a move to Newcastle this summer and the Telegraph reported on 22 August that the Geordies are in talks to sign the ex-Manchester City winger.
Newcastle are said to be frustrated by Leeds’ £40million-plus valuation of Harrison, who Redknapp feels will be playing for England in the future.
“Goals, assists and a fantastic work rate. That’s what you got from Jack Harrison [on Sunday],” said Redknapp on the BetVictor website on Monday (22 August).
“He just gets better. He’s a future England international that’s for sure.
“He’s someone that Leeds will be desperate to keep a hold of this transfer window.”
Leeds have gone under a massive transformation in 2022.
Marcelo Bielsa was replaced by Jesse Marsch towards the start of the year and star players Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips left for Barcelona and Manchester City respectively earlier this summer.
While no big names were brought in to straight-up replace them, a lot of credit has to be given to those who’ve stuck around at Elland Road and really stepped up their game.
None have done so more than Harrison and Rodrigo.
Harrison has been in sensational form in the opening weeks of the Premier League season and that performance against Chelsea on Sunday was easily one of his best in the white of Leeds United.
Rodrigo will be talked about most for scoring four goals in three games but Harrison’s form should mean he’s started to emerge in the reckoning for the England squad.
England play Italy and Germany in the Nations League next month so it will be very interesting to see what Gareth Southgate makes of him in those games and whether he’s set for a spot at the World Cup.
Right now, he’s the most in-form English attacker in the Premier League.
