Harry Gray exit update shared at Leeds United after Archie Gray-Tottenham transfer

There is no plan for Harry Gray to depart Leeds United in the summer transfer window after Archie Gray’s summer exit, according to Graham Smyth.

Archie Gray’s exit was confirmed on Tuesday (2 July) as the 18-year-old completed his big-money move to Tottenham, with speculation quickly suggesting his brother Harry would soon follow him out of Elland Road.

However, Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Smyth has suggested that will not be the case as the Gray family is eager to encourage the young forward to follow his brother’s pathway to the first team.

Speaking on the Inside Elland Road podcast (3 July, 29:15) he said: “That’s another one of the rumours that was set running that he was off. There’s no suggestion that the plan is any different because of what is happening with Archie.

“The plan is for him to stay and the Gray’s have always been very big on where are you going to play? Which club is going to give you the opportunity and he’s better placed at Leeds than going to Manchester City and being one of a cast.

“He’s far better staying at home, surrounded by his family at a club that he knows, a club that his brother has come through at and following that path.”

Will Harry Gray exit Leeds United after Archie Gray’s summer Tottenham transfer?

While losing Archie Gray was a major blow for Leeds United supporters, it would have only been compounded even further had Harry immediately followed his brother out of the door moments later.

Although the Whites are doing what they can to manage expectations around the 15-year-old, there is already plenty of excitement around the fanbase about the teenager’s potential with pundits labelling him “unbelievable” [Dominic Matteo, 27 April].

Leeds have shown through their management of Archie Gray that there will always be a pathway to the first team available for players who deserve it, no matter how old they are. If they are good enough, Daniel Farke will hand them their opportunity.

It may be a little while before we see Harry Gray lighting up the Elland Road turf, but for now, at least, his future seems to lie with the Whites. Hopefully, Leeds will be able to keep another one of their brightest talents on their books for a little bit longer this time.
