Gus Hamer transfer: Leeds United signing still on cards

Gus Hamer could still sign for Leeds United but only if they achieve promotion and Sheffield United don’t, according to TEAMtalk.

The outlet reported on 31 December that Leeds made an attempt to sign Hamer after his move to Bramall Lane and he remains a target for the Whites.

The signing of a number 10 has been mooted at Elland Road in January with links to MLS playmaker Diego Luna not going away (Voetbal Nieuws).

However, if Leeds are to sign Hamer, it will hinge on their ability to pip the Blades to promotion as Sheffield United will not sell to a direct rival.

Leeds United missed the opportunity to sign Gus Hamer

While hindsight is always a frustrating way to see things, the failed capture of Hamer is certainly a big one and his performances for the Blades this season have been exceptional.

His ability in transition matched with his reputation to score and assist have seen him thrive for Leeds’ rivals and the thought of him in this current team is mouth-watering.

Brenden Aaronson has been in exceptional form at times for the Whites this season but a lack of direct competition could cause him to drop his levels on occasions although if the signing of Luna can be completed, those circumstances could change.

While the signing of Hamer is a no-go, January still has the potential to be a game-changing month for Daniel Farke’s side as they look to maintain their spot at the summit of the Championship.

All eyes will be on the transfer window as Leeds look to strengthen their squad for the second half of the campaign.
