Leeds United will need to replace Junior Firpo as he appears set to seal his permanent Elland Road exit.

After four years in Yorkshire, the Dominican Republic international will be parting ways with the club.

The left-back was part of Leeds' Premier League campaign, their relegation to the Championship and their return to the English top flight.

Leeds want Gudmundsson to replace Firpo, but are not advanced in their pursuit to secure his services.

The Sweden international played a key role in guiding Lille to Europa League qualification, playing 45 games in all competitions.

The 26-year-old has one year left on his contract and they could look to cash in on his services.

Leeds United may have found the ideal Firpo replacement

Gudmundsson is an ideal replacement for Firpo at Leeds United due to his dynamic skill set, proven track record and suitability for Daniel Farke’s system.

With 137 appearances for Lille, scoring four goals and providing three assists, Gudmundsson has thrived in Ligue 1, showcasing versatility as a left-back or wing-back.

His earlier stint at Halmstads BK highlights his attacking flair, while his 37 games at FC Groningen demonstrate adaptability across leagues.

Unlike Firpo, who has struggled with consistency and defensive lapses at Leeds, Gudmundsson offers a better balance of defensive solidity and offensive contribution.

His pace, work rate and ability to deliver precise crosses align with Farke’s high-pressing, attacking style at Elland Road.

With a year left on his deal, Gudmundsson represents a cost-effective upgrade, bringing international experience and the potential to solidify Leeds’ left flank for the 2025/26 survival push.
