There are growing concerns at Celtic Park that Odsonned Edouard will quit the Scottish champions amid interest from Leeds United and other Premier League clubs, according to the Scottish Sun.
Celtic crashed out of the Champions League earlier this week with a defeat to Hungarian side Ferencvaros and while the newspaper reports the Hoops are not under any pressure to sell their players, Edouard’s agents are aware of the increased interest in the French striker.
Edouard, 22, has already scored four goals in four appearances across all competitions this season but missed the 2-1 defeat to Ferencvaros on Wednesday due to a knock.
While Leeds are said to be interested in signing the former Paris Saint-Germain forward, he is also wanted by Leicester, Everton, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Newcastle.
However, we don’t envisage Leeds making a move to sign Edouard based on the simple fact that an agreement is in place to sign Rodrigo from Valencia.
It was widely reported that the Spain forward underwent a medical earlier this week ahead of joining the Whites in a club-record deal worth around £30million.
Marcelo Bielsa likes to have a small squad of players at his disposal and we very much doubt that he will want to go into the new season with three centre-forwards when he was more than happy with two last term.
Edouard is a good young striker who’s been prolific in the Scottish Premiership and in Europe having scored six goals in both the Champions League and Europa League last season.
Many will point to the weakness of the Scottish Premiership when discussing Edouard but Moussa Dembele left Celtic a couple of years ago to join Lyon, who he helped reach the Champions League semi-finals last term.
There’s another good young French striker bursting onto the scene – but we doubt that Leeds will be seriously interested in him anymore.
In other Leeds United news, Bielsa has taken a shine to this “untouchable” assist king.
