Grayson reacts to Jamie Vardy talk, transfer advanced amid Leeds speculation

Simon Grayson has spoken out after Jamie Vardy was linked with a switch from Leicester City to Leeds United.

The ex-England international confirmed last month that he would be leaving the King Power at the end of the season after a stellar 13-year spell.

This has sparked a number of transfer rumours ahead of the summer with Daniel Farke’s side linked ahead of a return to the Premier League.

Now, in reaction to this news, former Whites boss Grayson has spoken out on the potential of Vardy moving to Elland Road in the summer.

Grayson speaks out on Vardy role at Leeds United

There will be a number of high-profile clubs who will be keen on bringing the 38-year-old in, regardless of his age, in the coming weeks and months.

This comes after a run of excellent form in the Premier League and Championship with the Foxes over the years.

With 199 goals behind him in a Leicester City shirt, there is no doubt that the number nine could prove to be an excellent addition for experience at Leeds.

As a result, it is little surprise that Vardy’s move to his next side is at an advanced stage with interest coming from the Whites this summer [TEAMtalk, 2 May].

Farke’s side are said to be admirers of the striker and believe he can contribute goals for them as they step up into the Premier League.

With that being said, former Leeds boss Grayson has spoken out and suggested that the forward could become a positive squad player at Elland Road.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast (8 May), he said: “He’s proven that he’s still got the hunger and desire, his legs have probably gone a bit, but he’s still got something about him.

“Maybe one season he could work as a squad player, I don’t see Jamie [Vardy] starting for Leeds that often, to be fair, because if you’re reliant on Jamie, he’s 39, he’s had a fantastic career.

“It’s probably not the message you’re sending out that he’s going to be your number nine for the whole season. I think wherever he ends up will be as a squad player.”

Vardy could shine at Leeds United

There is no doubt that the Leicester number nine has been one of the best strikers in the Premier League over recent years.

It says a lot that Vardy has managed to net 29 in his last two seasons and could prove to be an excellent addition off the bench.

This would likely see a decrease in minutes for someone like Mateo Joseph, who already struggled for gametime in the Championship last season.

With links to Beto also coming up at Everton, it is certainly set to be an interesting window in forward areas at Elland Road.
