Graham Smyth sold on Largie Ramazani signing at Leeds United after what he heard
Leeds United could be about to sign an exciting player in Largie Ramazani after Graham Smyth admitted he was “sold” on the imminent arrival.
Posting on X [21 August], the Yorkshire Evening Post’s chief football writer claimed colleague Joe Donnohue had given him an encouraging lowdown on Ramazani, as it was reported that the Almeria winger is set for a medical in West Yorkshire [Fabrizio Romano, 21 August].
The 23-year-old is set to sign a long-term contract with Leeds paying a fee of up to £10m, as the club dip into the funds generated by several high-profile sales.
Smyth wryly joked towards Donnohue: “I don’t know about any of you but I first heard about Largie Ramazani on the Inside Elland Road podcast a few weeks ago and Donnohue really sold him to me.
“So if he completes a move and if he’s a complete disaster you know precisely who to get angry with. The nerd.”
Largie Ramazani will not be the last to join Leeds United this window
At last, Leeds United fans have something to be excited about as Ramazani’s imminent move becomes public and, whilst the deal is not complete yet, things seem to be moving in the right direction.
All the Elland Road faithful have wanted to see is evidence that 49ers Enterprises are backing Daniel Farke, to regain the club’s spot as favourites to soar back into the Premier League via the top two this season.
Ramazani will become the third by-trade winger in Farke’s squad after Wilfried Gnonto and Dan James – and it is unlikely Leeds will sanction what has long been a rumoured exit for Gnonto unless a monumental offer arrives on the table.
The club have also been linked with a punt to attempt Jack Clarke to return to the club following his heroics with Sunderland last season, but that move is likely to be a non-starter unless north of £25m is considered [TEAMtalk, 19 August].
Norwich City’s Jonathan Rowe is seemingly on his way to Marseille in a £14m deal [Ben Jacobs, 21 August], denying Farke a reunion with the player he briefly coached as a teenager in 2021.
But it looks as if Leeds have now successfully identified a target and will be raring to go for a few more before 30 August at 11pm.
