Graham Smyth shares what Leeds United told him on Tuesday about transfer movement

Graham Smyth has today (Tuesday) been told that Leeds United are making progress in their bid to sign new players this month.

Leeds have signed just one player since the window opened with young Spanish striker Mateo Joseph Fernandez joining up with the Under-23s from Espanyol.

Leeds’ injury issues are well-documented and the need for reinforcements in the midfield are obvious.

And it seems that while no deals are close, Leeds are on the right track.

“It doesn’t sound like anything is imminent at present,” said Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Smyth in a video clip on Twitter on Tuesday [11 January].

We asked for an update earlier today and nothing was imminently expected to happen but they do feel they’ve made progress in their hunt.

“Victor Orta’s been very active, as you’d expect.”

Hurry it up

Leeds probably want to wait until a later stage of the January transfer window to add to the squad due to their injury crisis.

Later in the month, the club will have a better idea of who will be available for them so they may want to wait until then.

But what about the matches on the immediate horizon? And what if our injury issues do not allay.

Let’s face it, we’ve been at varying levels of injury crises during Marcelo Bielsa’s reign in charge at Elland Road.

There always seems to be one or two players out injured due to the way the manager pushes his players to the extreme on the training ground and on matchdays.

We’re not questioning his style of management – but we are starting to question his approach to transfers.

Orta is in charge of incomings and outgoings but nothing gets done without Bielsa’s green light.

And Bielsa seems to hold Orta back sometimes and maybe the director of football needs to be allowed a bit more freedom to bring in someone, especially when we don’t know if the Argentine will be here next season.

In other Leeds United news, a journalist has shared what insiders are telling him about this player’s future at Elland Road with a move imminent.
