Graham Smyth shares Leeds United stance on early Jack Harrison return

Leeds United have no intention of recalling Jack Harrison from his loan spell at Everton in the January transfer window, according to Graham Smyth.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist posted for the newspaper’s website (7 January) that a deal for the winger to return to Elland Road would have to be agreed to by all parties but the Whites are happy for him to remain in Merseyside.

While the 28-year-old has not been able to replicate the success of his initial loan spell with the Toffees, his parent club have received no suggestion that a return is wanted by the Blues.

Leeds will surely be relieved by the current situation they find themselves in with Harrison. The player has made it clear that he doesn’t see himself at Elland Road while they are a Championship side but given his form this term, Daniel Farke wouldn’t see him as too much use anyway.

Although the 28-year-old has made 17 appearances for the Toffees this season, the winger has no goals or assists to show for it which highlights why the Blues find themselves sitting just a point above the relegation zone.

Furthermore, Harrison will be one of the top earners at Elland Road meaning his return would put the club in a difficult position when it comes to deciding how to progress given he remains under contract until 2027.

Thankfully for the Whites, the decision has to be approved by all parties meaning they can put their focus on gaining players who can help their promotion push this term and leave any thoughts about Harrison’s long-term future until the summer.
