Graham Smyth shares Leeds transfer update he’s been told by insider – Definitely’

Leeds United’s transfer window has been on the quiet side in regards to incomings so far.

Facundo Buonanotte is Leeds’ only signing of the January window so far, with some feeling that Paraag Marathe has let Daniel Farke down as a result.

Indeed, there seems to be a considerable amount more activity at Elland Road in terms of outgoings, with the clearing of some deadwood an apparent priority this month.

Jack Harrison is on the verge of joining Fiorentina, whilst Joel Piroe could also leave Leeds before the window shuts.

Graham Smyth shares Leeds transfer hint

Given Leeds‘ upturn in performances and results since Farke switched to a back three, it may well be that quality over quantity has always been the approach this month.

However, the Whites aren’t out of the relegation woods just yet, and alongside the arrival of Buonanotte, more may need to be done to ensure there is enough firepower in the team to comfortably pull away from the bottom three.

And, speaking on the latest edition of the Inside Elland Road podcast on Friday, the Yorkshire Evening Post’s chief football writer Graham Smyth shared an insight on what business could be conducted.

“Someone at the club said to me that they’re now very much in the realm of seeing what the market offers them in terms of opportunities compared with their needs,” said Smyth.

“I still think there’s a desire to do one more, at least if they can, and centre-forward is definitely the position they would do it in.”

Leeds can’t afford to rest on Dominic Calvert-Lewin laurels

Having signed on a free transfer in this season’s summer transfer window, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been a revelation for Leeds.

Undoubtedly one of the Whites’ best bargain signings in recent memory, the 28-year-old striker has been back to his best for Leeds this term, and looks sure to be on England’s plane for the World Cup.

However, fellow new arrival Lukas Nmecha hasn’t been able to have the same level of impact, and thus the depth behind Calvert-Lewin at the centre-forward position is thin to say the least.

Therefore, it wouldn’t just be wise to sign another striker with the idea of pairing him up alongside Calvert-Lewin, but also to prepare for the possible eventuality the Leeds’ number nine leaves in the summer.

Should he continue his excellent form through the remainder of the season, there surely won’t be a shortage of clubs circling Calvert-Lewin this summer, and convincing him to stay could prove tough.

Calvert-Lewin also has a long history of injury problems, and as such, there is always the danger that Leeds could find themselves incredibly short if another unfortunate issue arises for him in that regard.
