Graham Smyth: Leeds United plan further Under-23 signings
Leeds United are planning further signings for their Under-23s side this summer despite early movement, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
Writing on the YEP’s website, Graham Smyth claims “further recruitment is planned” regarding Mark Jackson’s side as they gear up for a campaign against some heavyweight second-string outfits in Premier League 2, after last season’s Division 2 success.
The Whites have already signed English Sean McGurk (Wigan Athletic) and Amari Miller (Birmingham City) in the early stages of the summer, but it appears that they will be joined by more new recruits before the season starts.
Challenging the elite
It doesn’t appear as if the young Whites will settle for being passengers in the Premier League 2 this year.
After gaining promotion last season, one could forgive Jackson’s side for just aiming to be competitive and survive in the top league among the big-hitters like Manchester City and Chelsea.
However, it looks like the club is serious about their intentions of troubling the status quo in England, and that doesn’t just apply to the senior side.
That’s great news for Leeds fans.
As well as a competitive and exciting first time, supporters get enthused about up and coming stars, prodigious talents that they can dream about watching for years at Elland Road. The Whites are recruiting and moulding players just like that.
Joe Gelhardt, Sam Greenwood and Cody Drameh are just a few names to have dazzled for the Under-23s in recent times, and it seems the club are intent on imitating that success with further signings this summer.
The 2021/22 campaign could be some sight for Leeds fans, with exciting sides at senior and Under-23 level.
In other Leeds United news, this Whites-linked ‘Genius’ has been told he can leave his club this summer, Victor Orta has held agent talks.
