Glen Kamara interest confirmed with Leeds United exit on the cards
Stade Rennais sporting director Frédéric Massara has confirmed the club’s interest in Leeds United midfielder Glen Kamara.
Kamara, 28, who played a big role in the Whites’ campaign last season, is reportedly on Rennes’ radar as they aim to rebuild their squad ahead of the new season.
Speaking at his unveiling as the new sporting director [Adam Pope, 9 July], Massara acknowledged Kamara’s quality, saying: “He’s a Leeds player, a good player, interesting for sure, but lots of names that perhaps haven’t come out could come, and even quickly, I hope we’ll finalise soon.”
Despite Daniel Farke’s intentions to retain Kamara, Rennes’ pursuit could intensify as they seek to fill the void left by departing players.
The Finnish international made 42 appearances for Leeds last season following his move from Glasgow Rangers in a £5million deal.
Daniel Farke would love to keep Glen Kamara at Leeds United
Farke faces a tough decision with Kamara attracting interest, especially after losing Archie Gray to Tottenham Hotspur for £40million.
Kamara played a crucial role in Leeds’ midfield, supporting their attacking play all season and with the Championship season approaching, the Whites boss is keen to strengthen his squad, having already signed goalkeeper Alex Cairns and defender Joe Rodon.
Nonetheless, it comes as no surprise that Farke really wants to keep Kamara, seeing him as a key player with three years left on his contract.
And, as pre-season approaches, Leeds must handle interest in their top players while making smart moves to strengthen their squad.
The next few weeks will be important for the Whites as they aim to build a strong team capable of challenging for promotion back to the Premier League.
