Glen Kamara closes in on Leeds United exit as Rennes transfer update emerges

Glen Kamara is now close to securing his Leeds United exit and a summer transfer to Rennes, according to The Yorkshire Evening Post.

The outlet reported on its website on Sunday (14 July) that the Finnish midfielder is set to end his year-long stay in Yorkshire, despite the Whites’ initial desire to keep him at Elland Road this summer.

Reports have suggested Leeds have agreed a few of £8.5million with the Ligue 1 club, with personal terms already in place between both parties only a year after he arrived from Rangers for around £5million [Fabrizio Romano, 13 July].

Will Glen Kamara exit Leeds United amid Stade Rennes transfer speculation?

Leeds United will have been reluctant to lose yet another first-team midfielder only a matter of weeks after Archie Gray completed his big-money move to Tottenham, but they couldn’t reject this offer for Kamara.

While the Finnish international was incredibly consistent in his first season at Elland Road, he did little to blow supporters and pundits away. He didn’t have that wow factor to set him apart from the rest of his teammates.

Therefore, it represents excellent business that Leeds have been able to double their money after just over 12 months, while also managing to get the midfielder’s wages off of their bill ahead of the start of the new season.

That money saved can be reinvested back into Daniel Farke’s squad between now and the end of the summer transfer window as he definitely needs one or two mre midfield reinforcements to support Ilia Gruev and Ethan Ampadu.

The signing of Joe Rothwell is an excellent start, but the Southampton loanee alone won’t be enough to fire the Whites back into the Premier League this season.

Hopefully, one or two new faces will arrive at Elland Road before pre-season preparations really take a step up.
