Gladbach try to sign Leeds United loanee Max Wober in bargain deal despite comments in Germany
Borussia Monchengladbach have tried to sign Leeds United loanee Max Wober despite comments he recently made, according to Rheinische Post.
The German newspaper reported on page 23 of its print edition on Friday (19 January) that the Austrian international referred to himself as a “passenger” before Christmas, with some interpreting that as a “poor commitment” to the Bundesliga club.
It added that the 25-year-old centre-back can “certainly imagine” his future being at Gladbach, but his loan deal is not believed to contain an option-to-buy clause [The Athletic].

Likely to happen
It feels likely that Wober’s time at Elland Road probably will come to a permanent end before too long if Gladbach are intent on signing him.
It doesn’t come as too much of a surprise after he’s been an ever-present in their side this season, making 17 appearances in the heart of the defence.
The Austrian put in some decent performances during his time with Leeds, but the fact of the matter is, he was one of the players who wanted out of West Yorkshire last summer.

It’s unclear what Daniel Farke’s position will be on the players currently out on loan, but no one could blame him if he decides he doesn’t want any of them to be part of his squad if they don’t secure permanent moves following their loans.
Another factor will be on what division the Whites are in next season because if they fail to gain promotion back to the Premier League, that would almost certainly mean he’ll be moving on.
In other Leeds United news, Noel Gallagher has shared the likelihood of Kalvin Phillips re-joining the Whites.
