‘Get it done’ – Many Leeds fans react to BBC Sport update on player who’d ‘thrive under Bielsa’
Leeds United fans have been reacting on Twitter after it was reported that Brentford’s failure to win promotion means Ollie Watkins is up for grabs.
According to BBC Sport, the 24-year-old striker is available for £18million this summer due to a release clause in his contract in West London.
Watkins scored 26 goals in 50 appearances across all competitions this season but could not help Brentford win promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history as they lost the play-off final against Fulham on Tuesday.
Leeds, on the other hand, have won promotion and fans expect the club to sign a new centre-forward for Marcelo Bielsa to manage in the Premier League.
Patrick Bamford is the only out-and-out striker in the first-team at the moment so bringing in a forward like Watkins could be on Victor Orta’s mind.
The Athletic journalist Phil Hay has already reported that the former Exeter ace is someone who Leeds admire as the Whites “see qualities in him which would suit Bielsa’s tactics”.
And it seems a lot of fans feel the same way, with some urging the club to get a deal done for Watkins after seeing the news about his £18million release clause.

Not everyone is convinced though, with these fans unhappy about links with the Brentford striker and suggesting he might go to Aston Villa instead.

Everyone is bound to have their opinion on Watkins.
We’ve seen him go down very easily at times this season while many accept that Bielsa’s system does not require a goalscoring centre-forward.
We’ll see what the Argentine does this summer but with Watkins up for grabs at £18million, we wouldn’t be shocked to see Leeds at least make an attempt to sign him.
In other Leeds United news, the club is interested in this Wales international.
