Galatasaray ‘very close’ to signing Leeds ace Alioski

Galatasaray are “very close” to signing Ezgjan Alioski after the wide man rejected a new Leeds United contract, according to Milliyet.

Alioski’s existing deal at Elland Road expires at the end of the season, which means that clubs from outside of England can approach him on a pre-contract basis.

And it seems that is what Galatasaray have done as Turkish news outlet Millyet claims they’re on the verge of landing the North Macedonia international, who’s snubbed a new contract with the Whites.

Anyone but them

If Alioski wants to reject a new contract at Leeds and try his hand elsewhere then fair enough. He’s played a big role in helping us win promotion and has helped us perform above and beyond expectations in the Premier League so far.

While he’s played regularly for Marcelo Bielsa in the top-flight, earning 25 league appearances and 18 starts, there have been hints that Alioski isn’t quite up to scratch for going toe to toe with England’s elite.

Alioski is a winger playing as a left-back, more often than not and there are so many matches where opposition attackers expose that horribly.

He’s not been a complete failure in the Premier League but we’ve seen enough to say we wouldn’t lose sleep about leaving him in footballing terms.

As a character, we’d hate to see Alioski go and we’d especially hate it if he joined Galatasaray.

Kevin Speight and Christopher Loftus were stabbed to death by Galatasaray fans in Istanbul in 2000.

No one who supports the Whites will ever, ever forgive the Turkish club for what transpired at the UEFA Cup semi-finals

In other Leeds United news, this £19,000-a-week player is unlikely to get much more game-time for the Whites this term.
