Gabriel Gudmundsson reacts to contract news as Leeds United cooking

Gabriel Gudmundsson is one of a number of current and former Leeds United players to air his delight at some contract news.

The Whites are still riding the wave of a successful 2025-26 campaign that saw them stay in the Premier League with relative ease.

Leeds are now looking to push on this coming season, hopefully with the addition of a handful of new signings.

But before any signings have been concluded, Daniel Farke's men have already pulled off one impressive piece of business.

It was confirmed on Thursday that Ethan Ampadu has put pen to paper on a new deal at Elland Road, much to the delight of everyone connected to Leeds.

Ethan Ampadu contract news is first big summer win for Leeds

Tying down influential skipper Ampadu to a new four-year deal is as good as news any Leeds fan could have expected.

The transfer window is not yet officially open, with deals unlikely for another few weeks, so getting key men to commit is the priority.

Paraag Marathe was first to announce the news in an interview, shortly before Leeds then put out an announcement on their social channels.

That news understandably went down well, with Gudmundsson commenting with two 'love eyes' emojis.

Sam Byram spoke for every Leeds fan, meanwhile, when he posted: "No one deserves it more."

Former teammate Junior Firpo, now at Real Betis, wrote: "Love to see it."

Cricket great Stuart Broad also chimed in, saying: "That’s a lovely looking shirt."

Ampadu was sporting Leeds' new away kit, which was also revealed on Thursday and went down just as well as the contract news itself.

Who should Leeds prioritise next after Ampadu contract?

While he is not exactly the sexiest name, Leeds really could do with agreeing terms with Ampadu's international colleague Karl Darlow.

That is based solely on the fact that Darlow, out of nowhere, played a big part in Leeds' survival last season and is now out of contract.

Rewarding Darlow with a two-year deal seems an easy win to keep this feel-good factor alive.

Beyond that, Lukas Nmecha and Brenden Aaronson only have one year left to run on their contracts, while Ao Tanaka has two to go.

This has not always been the case, but Leeds are very much on the ball right now with their decision making and that is something fans can get behind.
