Gabriel Gudmundsson could hold the key for Leeds United to finally sign Jorgen Strand Larsen
Leeds United are in hot pursuit of Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen as they aim to bolster their attacking ranks.
Leeds have submitted a bid of around £39million for Strand Larsen, and are locked in negotiations with the Molinuex outfit to agree a deal.
It is reported that Wolves would accept an offer of £40m, so the Whites may not be too far away from the asking price.
However, Daniel Farke’s side will have to move quickly to secure the Norwegian striker, who has interest from the likes of Crystal Palace and West Ham United as well.
Gudmundsson can convince Strand Larsen to join Leeds
If Strand Larsen does have the choice between Leeds and another Premier League club, Gabriel Gudmundsson could prove key in convincing him to make the move to Elland Road.
The pair played together for a year at Dutch side FC Groningen in the 2020-21 season, and struck up a good relationship during that spell.
Strand Larsen scored nine goals throughout the course of that campaign, and four of them were assisted by Gudmundsson.
Groningen finished seventh in the Eredivisie that year, with Gudmundsson then completing a move to Lille at the start of 2021-22.
Farke will hope that his left-back can put in a good word for him and encourage Strand Larsen to push through his switch to Leeds.
Who will leave if Strand Larsen comes in?
If Leeds do manage to get the Strand Larsen deal over the line before the end of the winter transfer window, then it is likely they will need to sell someone in order to balance the books.
The Whites are close to their profit and sustainability rules limit, and want to ensure that they don’t put themselves at risk of a points deduction.
Joel Piroe would be the likely man sacrificed for Strand Larsen if the Wolves striker made the move to West Yorkshire.
Despite failing to find the back of the net so far this season, Piroe has insisted that he wants to remain at Elland Road until the summer and fight for his place.
If Leeds need to raise some funds, though, the decision could be taken out of his hands.
