Gabby Agbonlahor casts doubt over Leeds United 2022/23 Premier League hopes

Gabby Agbonlahor believes the influx of new faces at Elland Road could leave Leeds United struggling in the 2022/23 Premier League season.

The Whites have made six new signings and spent over £90million so far this summer, with Jesse Marsch looking to replace Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha.

However, the former Aston Villa striker believes the inexperience and amount of incomings could be detrimental to Leeds.

Talking on talkSPORT Breakfast on Thursday [14 July] he said: “It happened at Aston Villa where they recruited players from Ligue 1 and took them a couple of years to get to where they are now.

“Bringing in a lot of players who haven’t played in the Premier League can be risky if you don’t have a few experienced Premier League players.

“It might take them a season to get used to the pace of the Premier League but Leeds don’t have that time.

“They need more firepower and guaranteed goals to stay in the Premier League.”

Could go either way

Leeds’ influx of new faces could go either way for Marsch and the club hierarchy, but surely recruiting players is better than starting the new season in a similar position to when they finished the last.

Obvious Leeds have lost their two best players over the course of this summer but it is easy to forget that no one had heard of Raphinha before he came to the Premier League and Phillips’ career has been mainly in the EFL.

The Whites’ signings this summer should certainly raise the optimism of Leeds United fans heading into the new season regardless of the impact they go on to make.

Leeds United

The Yorkshire side have certainly put themselves in a better position than their relegation rivals Everton who have made one summer addition thus far, as well as losing Richarlison to Tottenham.

It feels like an all-or-nothing approach by Leeds and it seems the right way to head into the new season.

Entrusting in Marcelo Bielsa’s gung-ho methods nearly got the Whites relegated so it’s good they have fully backed Marsch and his vision for the club.

So far he is certainly giving himself a good platform to succeed at Elland Road.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites now want to sign this striker with a rival set to kickstart a major £30million+ transfer battle
