Fulham to open door for Leeds bid for Rodrigo Muniz as Craven Cottage stance revealed

Leeds United may still get the opportunity to sign Rodrigo Muniz this summer.

The Whites are in desperate need of a new striker, with concerns regarding Joel Piroe’s ability to adapt to the Premier League combined with a worrying lack of quality depth behind him.

Leeds have already seen one bid for Muniz rejected earlier in the window, with their offer of around £32million falling short of the Cottagers valuation, believed to be set at the £40m mark.

Daniel Farke’s side are running out of time to secure the Brazilian’s signature, with under three weeks left until the 1 September deadline, but a deal may not be off the cards for them just yet.

Fulham signing another striker could open door for Leeds bid

Leeds are now being joined in the race for Muniz by Atalanta, and the striker even asked to miss Fulham’s pre-season friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt at the weekend after learning of the interest from the Italians.

The Serie A outfit boast the promise of Champions League football this term, which would surely have stood them ahead of the Whites in the race, however all hope should not be lost in West Yorkshire.

Fulham are believed to currently be assessing the striker options that are available on the market, and the discovery of a capable option could open the door for Leeds to launch a fresh bid, according to Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre (12 August, 3:29pm).

The Whites are understood to view the Brazilian as their number one striker target and are not giving up hope of getting a deal done.

However, at the moment, Fulham are insisting that they won’t sell to a Premier League rival, and the idea of a move to Atalanta is thought to appeal to Muniz.

Muniz is not worth a £40m outlay for the Whites

Leeds have also been chasing Artem Dovbyk in recent weeks, with the Roma star another frontman firmly on their radar.

The fact that the Whites see Muniz as their ideal option is slightly concerning, given the pricetag that has been set for his services.

Muniz’s career stats in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old hit eight goals from as many starts in the Premier League last term, but he is yet to be handed a role that will see hm shoulder the burden of being a first-choice selection.

He has predominantly been a player who brings impact from the bench for Fulham, and for a potential outlay of £40m, the newly-promoted outfit would surely want more for their money.
