Fulham reject chance to sign Leeds United forward Brenden Aaronson as Union Berlin transfer interest emerges

Fulham have turned down the chance to sign Brendan Aaronson from Leeds United after having initial interest in a loan deal, report The Mirror.

The USA international joined the Whites last summer but managed just one goal in his debut season as the club were relegated to the Championship following three seasons in the top flight.

But after Bundesliga side Union Berlin made their interest in the 22-year-old known, the west London club have now dropped out of the race for his services.

“Fulham have rejected the chance to bring USMNT star Brenden Aaronson back to the Premier League after the midfielder was relegated with Leeds United,” they wrote (2 July).

Ouch

For Leeds it doesn’t really make a difference which team Aaronson ends up going to, because so long as he’s off the wage bill and playing elsewhere it’s a good thing.

For the player himself though it’s a real blow that Fulham have dropped out of the race because it makes a return to the Premier League more unlikely and means he can’t prove himself in England.

A move to Union Berlin would be somewhat of a step up for the 2023/24 season however as they look to build their squad for their maiden Champions League campaign.

But Aaronson clearly has talent, it just didn’t translate well in England and Leeds can still make a case for getting a good sum of money in for him whether it’s as an option or obligation in a loan deal or for a permanent transfer.

He won’t be going to Fulham, but it would still be a huge shock to see Aaronson lining up at Elland Road next season.

In other Leeds news, a 22 goal international hitman is a multi-million pound target for the Whites this summer.
