‘For crying out loud’, ‘Cruelty’ – Many Leeds fans slam Phil Hay transfer update on first-teamer
Leeds United fans are fuming with an update from Phil Hay which says that Derby County on keen to sign Tyler Roberts on loan this month.
According to The Athletic journalist, the Rams are eyeing up a temporary swoop for the 21-year-old attacker this month with him struggling to feature for Marcelo Bielsa in the Premier League.
Roberts has played just nine times in all competitions this season for Leeds, starting only two Premier League fixtures. He’s appeared just twice in the Whites’ last nine top-flight games and was left out of the squad altogether against Tottenham last week.
Roberts is still a young player but is a player who, in the Championship, showed he had a lot of promise so it would make sense to send him out on loan this month so that he can continue his development.
He’s a part of Bielsa’s first-team at Elland Road but if you’re not playing regularly at his age, your development can stall.
Derby are reportedly keen but due to the fractured relationship between the Whites and their East Midlands counterparts, a section of fans have hit out over the idea of the Wales international heading to Pride Park on loan.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
Roberts played a role in Leeds winning automatic promotion from the Championship last season by earning 23 league appearances and scoring four goals.
However, his season was a bit stop-start due to injuries and the fact that he was never a solid starter for Bielsa unless there was a selection issue with his usual starters.
One half-season on loan for a team where he starts every week could do the Welsh attacker the world of good.
If Derby can offer him that then we need to put differences aside and realise what’s best for Roberts.
In other Leeds United news, Graham Smyth’s shared a major update on speculation linking Fikayo Tomori to the Whites.
