‘Fantastic’, ‘Surprised’ – Many Leeds fans react as BBC journalist says 24y/o has left Elland Rd
Leeds United fans have been reacting on Twitter after it was reported that Kamil Miazek has been released by the club after his contract expired.
BBC Radio Leeds journalist Adam Pope reported on his personal Twitter account on Thursday night that he understands the 24-year-old goalkeeper has left Elland Road after his squad number was handed to new arrival Joe Gelhardt, who will wear the number 30 jersey next season.
Miazek joined Leeds in 2017 but failed to make a single senior appearance for the club.
He did, however, get called up onto the bench a number of times by Marcelo Bielsa, especially at the back-end of last season when Kiko Casilla was suspended.
But the arrival of Elia Caprile in January and the new signing of Dani van den Heuvel means that Leeds have plenty of young, up-and-coming goalkeepers who can be a part of Bielsa’s squad next season if he has an injury or suspension issue.
Miazek’s exit has been met by a mixed reaction from Leeds United supporters on Twitter.
One has described it as “fantastic news” while a couple of others have said they are “surprised” the Polish shot-stopper has not been offered a new deal.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
One Leeds fan seems to think that Miazek will stay in Yorkshire and join Huddersfield in the Championship.
Huddersfield are now managed by former Leeds Under-23s boss Carlos Corberan and Miazek has been linked with heading to the John Smith’s Stadium to reunite with the Spaniard.

Wherever Miazek ends up next, we wish him the best of luck.
Unfortunately, he never made the grade at Leeds and it makes little sense to offer a 24-year-old goalkeeper, who’s barely played any senior football in his career, a new deal.
Caprile and van den Heuvel have arrived at Thorp Arch from Italy and the Netherlands – two countries where goalkeeping legends have been born in the past.
Let’s hope they can become Leeds’ new Gianluigi Buffon or Edwin van der Sar.
In other Leeds United news, Andrea Radrizzani has spoken out about Bielsa’s contract.
