‘Fantastic story if this pulls off’ – Some Leeds fans thrilled as Phil Hay relays transfer news
Leeds United fans are excited by the prospect of Daniel James heading to Elland Road after The Athletic’s Phil Hay reported that the Manchester United forward is a “genuine” target.
Swansea pulled the plug on Leeds signing James, 22, in January 2019 despite the Wales international arriving at Thorp Arch and having pictures taken ahead of being unveiled as a new Whites player.
Man United ended up signing James several months later but he has failed to shine as much as hoped at Old Trafford and The Sun is now claiming that the attacker is interested in joining Leeds.
It is understood the Whites feel they can sign James for around £12million, plus add-ons, while the player would also be keen on a loan move.
Marcelo Bielsa likes to stuff his squad with plenty of wide options and former Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Hay has now backed up The Sun’s report, saying that if Man United make James available, Leeds would be “tempted” to make a move for him.
Plenty of Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news and the general consensus seems that the supporters would welcome the lightning-quick forward at Elland Road.
One fan even claimed that “Bielsa would turn Dan James into Raheem Sterling”.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
James hasn’t had the best year at Old Trafford but we’ve seen time and time again how players can step out of the limelight at Man United and perform at clubs lower down the league.
The ex-Swansea man may have gone too high too soon in his switch to Man United.
Hopefully a move to Leeds will show why Bielsa wanted him in January 2019.
In other Leeds United news, a player who rejected the Whites could do a U-turn on his decision.
