Fabrizio Romano shares what he's been told about Leeds United and Jack Wylie transfer speculation

Leeds United-linked Jack Wylie is solely focused on Rangers amid speculation linking the young full-back with a move to Elland Road, according to Fabrizio Romano.

On Sunday (9 October), the Guardian journalist wrote on the CaughtOffside Substack site that up to five Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on the 15-year-old sensation with Arsenal also among the club to reportedly be linked with him.

However, it is understood that it’s unclear whether any movement has been made towards a move to English football for Wylie.

Romano said: “I’m not too surprised to see big names like Arsenal and Leeds being linked with 15-year-old wonderkid Jack Wylie as he’s a top talent, but what’s the truth about his situation?

“There are four or five Premier League clubs that are following him, but it’s still too early to mention negotiations or advanced talks with Rangers. At the moment, I’m told is too early and Jack is focused on Rangers.”

Football Insider reported on 8 October that Leeds are one of the clubs eyeing up Wylie.

He’s been scouted while playing for Rangers youth teams and Scotland’s Under-16s.

It is understood that as he doesn’t turn 16 until January, he cannot sign professional terms yet and that’s an issue for Rangers with trying to keep hold of the in-demand sensation.

Leeds have regularly checked out young players across the UK in recent years with Victor Orta scouring Scottish football for additions at youth level.

It may be due to the fact that Brexit has made it harder to pick up youngsters from European nations or it could be just that there’s a bigger drive from the club to add a British feel to the academy at Thorp Arch.

Either way, as long as they’re talented young players, we don’t care where they’re form.

Wylie is clearly a talented young player to have that many Premier League clubs looking at him.

Leeds will do well to beat the likes of Arsenal to his signature but the Whites do have a couple of advantages in that they regularly promote youth players to the senior squad and that they’re close to Wylie’s Scottish homeland.

In other Leeds United news, an unexpected senior exit could be on the cards at Elland Road.
