Fabrizio Romano shares latest on Willy Gnonto exit from Leeds United amid ‘big fight’

Leeds United face a “big fight” to keep hold of star forward Willy Gnonto amid interest from Everton, with the Merseyside club prepared to bid again, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The journalist shared Gnonto’s desire to play at the highest level, in the Premier League with Everton, and that he will insist on leaving Elland Road before the transfer window closes on 1 September.

It is also stated that Leeds are still insisting he is not for sale at any price, and Romano therefore is unsure of what price tag would prise him away from the Yorkshire side after they already rejected a bid worth £25million plus add-ons. [Sky Sports, 18 August].

Speaking via his ‘Daily Briefing‘ via CaughtOffside [20 August], Romano shared: “Wilfried Gnonto – The Leeds forward will insist on a move until the end of the window.

“He wants to leave and he wants to play at the maximum level. Everton are prepared to bid again; I’m not sure on the fee needed to convince Leeds as they insist he’s not for sale, so it’s a big fight.”

Now or never

For Leeds, their continued reluctance to entertain bids for their star player will be tested, although the strength of their resolve seems unwavering. They are desperate to hold on to Gnonto, as they believe he provides them with a greater chance of securing promotion this season.

Daniel Farke

Everton are likely to become frustrated in their pursuit after having multiple bids turned down including a huge one which likely would’ve secured the Italian’s signature earlier in the window, and it remains to be seen how far they are willing to go in their attempts to sign him.

Leeds fans have already shown their displeasure at the situation, particularly at their clash with West Brom, as several banners were displayed criticising Gnonto for going on strike and trying to force through a move as he continues to refuse to play for the club.

Daniel Farke has been steadfast in his decision-making, making the attacker train separately from the group to avoid any unpleasant situations in training, while admitting he could still play a part in his side once the transfer window closes.

In other Leeds United news, another exit is now on standby after Leeds rejected a loan-to-buy offer.
