Fabrizio Romano: Leeds United in last-gasp bid to sign mystery defender in next 24 hours
Leeds United are set to make a last-gasp bid to sign a mystery defender in the January transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking to GiveMeSport on Wednesday (31 January), the Italian journalist said a centre-back is needed at Elland Road and the club are “looking for an opportunity” in that area.
He added that the name is currently “unclear”, but that the Whites are still trying and looking for a chance as Daniel Farke looks to bring in defensive reinforcements ahead of the deadline on Thursday (1 February).
“Of course, a centre-back is needed at Leeds,” said Romano. “They are looking for an opportunity there. The name is still unclear, but Leeds are still trying and looking for a chance there.”
No time to waste
There is absolutely no time to waste now for Leeds as the deadline is just over 24 hours away and it doesn’t look like they have anything lined up.
It will be extremely disappointing for the fans that the club have left it this late to get their business done after their promotion rivals have been strengthening over the past few weeks.
The Whites have been linked with several defensive players since the window opened, but for one reason or the other, they haven’t been able to get any deals over the line.

With Djed Spence being sent back to Tottenham, Luke Ayling being allowed to join Middlesbrough on loan and Pascal Struijk struggling through injury, Farke’s defensive options are fairly limited.
They can’t afford to be taking chances over the next few months given that promotion back to the Premier League is at stake, so they really need to get someone through the door at Elland Road.
