Fabrizio Romano: Leeds United complete Junior Firpo deal pending medicals
The deal to take Junior Firpo from Barcelona to Leeds United is on the verge of completion, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer guru made the claim on his personal Twitter profile on Monday afternoon amid mounting speculation over the 24-year-old’s impending move to Leeds.
He wrote: “Junior Firpo joins Leeds from Barcelona, deal completed and confirmed. Paperworks just signed between the two clubs – medicals soon, then it’s going to be announced.”
On the brink
This is surely a deal that cannot be stopped now.
According to Romano, everything has been agreed between the clubs, with the initial fee and bonus all sorted.
The paperwork has been signed, now the Spanish player just has to complete a medical.
The Leeds medical staff has surely done their homework on Firpo’s medical history and any potential injuries that may arise, so it looks like this is a mere formality before he is officially announced by the Leeds website and on their social media accounts.
It’s a transfer that only reared its head in the past week, so it was either kept firmly under wraps or the club have decided to seize on an opportunity that is too good to miss out on.
Our need for a left-back has been obvious for some time with midfielder Stuart Dallas forced to operate there under Marcelo Bielsa before Ezgjan Alioski nailed down a starting role in the second half of the season.
However, Alioski is currently a free agent after not putting pen to paper on the fresh terms offered to him by the Whites, and thus there is no recognised senior option at left-back.
It appears that Firpo is primed to fill that role, and he is set to be the first permanent first-team capture of the summer, discounting the conversion of Jack Harrison’s loan.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are in the hunt to sign this EUROs semi-final sensation who wowed Micah Richards in June.
