Fabrizio Romano: Crysencio Summerville loan to Hamburg collapses, no Minamino deal either

Leeds will not be signing Takumi Minamino on deadline day after Crysencio Summerville’s loan to Hamburg collapsed, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Marcelo Bielsa had been keen to strengthen his squad this month, with a move for Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson rebuffed.

Minamino was another player named as a target [Sky Sports], but that deal was dependent on young Summerville leaving on loan – although Bielsa was keen for him to stay.

According to Romano though, the Dutch winger has seen a potential loan move to Hamburg collapse which means he will be staying at Leeds this month.

It also means that Liverpool forward Minamino will not be joining the club this month, with Leeds opting to keep Summerville as part of their first-team squad instead.

Double-edged sword

This is a series of events that could go one of two ways, and it could have a big effect on the rest of Leeds’ season.

If Summerville is to get an opportunity it’s because the club has suffered from injury problems once again. If he impresses, then keeping him will obviously be seen as great business.

Leeds United

If he struggles to adapt to the rigours of Premier League football, however, then fans will look back at this moment as a big part of the reason for their struggles.

Minamino is a proven Premier League player who would fit in well with Bielsa’s style of play, so maybe a deal should’ve been done for him regardless of the 20-year-old’s exit.

It’s an answer we’ll only find out the answer to in May, but it’s certainly something to watch for the remainder of the season as the deals will not be happening.
