Fabrizio Romano claim shot down as Leeds United make transfer call on Diego Llorente

Leeds United have rejected an offer from Real Betis for Diego Llorente, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X on Sunday (7 July), Llorente had agreed on a four-year deal with Real Betis and was set to join the club for a fee of around £2.5million.

However, the YEP reported later on Sunday (7 July) that those reports were untrue and that the Whites had rejected an offer for the Spanish defender.

Llorente still has two years left to run on his contract at Elland Road.

Will Leeds United defender Diego Llorente quit Elland Road and join Real Betis?

What a confusing turn of events.

A Romano ‘Here we go’ can usually be considered as good as confirmation of a transfer, although it looks as though he might have gone a bit early on this one.

Romano’s report suggested that Llorente was keen on a move to Real Betis, and Daniel Farke and Leeds supporters were probably equally as keen for the player to move on.

He clearly has no future at Elland Road, and after last season, the Whites have proven that they don’t need the 30-year-old to make a promotion push.

Therefore, everybody connected with the deal will be hoping this is just a small hiccup on the way to an eventual agreement.

This rejection from Leeds could be for several reasons such as issues relating to the payment structure or the final fee.

However, it would be fair for supporters to assume that both clubs will eventually come to an agreement, with an apparent willingness on everyone’s part to get a deal done.
