Fabrizio Romano: Agents to decide on Leeds United as Fabio Carvalho approach made at Liverpool

Leeds United are one of four clubs that have made an approach to Liverpool to sign Fabio Carvalho, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist reported in his Daily Briefing on Sunday (7 January) that the 21-year-old winger’s agents will be consulted on the interest from the Whites as well Premier League club Wolves and fellow Championship outfits Hull City and Southampton.

He added that game time will be “crucial” for the Reds in their decision on where to loan the Portuguese U-21 international, who previously won promotion from the second tier with Fulham, after he was recalled from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in this transfer window.

“There are multiple clubs in the race for Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho,” said Romano. “Wolves want him, also Hull City, Leeds and Southampton.

“Game time will be crucial for Liverpool to make the decision after he struggled to play at RB Leipzig and was recalled.

“Fabio’s agents will be consulted by Liverpool and then the club will decide. Southampton are really pushing for this one, but there’s still no decision made.”

Tense wait

It will be a tense wait for Leeds to find out whether or not they have been successful in their bid to loan Carvalho, who can play wide or in an attacking midfield position.

Daniel Farke is keen to strengthen his squad for the second half of the campaign as he looks to put a strong team together to challenge for a top-two spot.

But they are up against other sides that will be of interest to the winger, with Wolves offering the chance to play Premier League football.

Elsewhere, Southampton and Hull City are both challenging for promotion to the top flight alongside the Whites, so it would be a blow if either of those clubs managed to sign him.

But Farke should be confident that his side are an attractive proposition for the Portuguese, who would undoubtedly add more quality in the attacking third.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites could be set to call up a player’s agent to complete their first January transfer.
