Exit-linked Leeds star headed to West Ham changing room after full-time at Elland Road

Daniel Farke oversaw a huge win for Leeds as they beat relegation-threatened West Ham 2-1 at Elland Road on Thursday night.

If Leeds want to avoid relegation back to the Championship, they need to be beating teams like the Hammers, who have had a woeful start to the 2025-26 campaign.

Thanks to first-half goals by Brenden Aaronson and Joe Rodon, Leeds beat West Ham at Elland Road, who grabbed what was no more than a consolation towards the end through Mateus Fernandes.

Chris Sutton is happy to see Farke doing well at Leeds after his poor Premier League record at his former club Norwich saw him sacked by them just under four years ago.

However, more results against teams who are going to be down there this season are bound to ensure the German can see out the full campaign in charge of Leeds.

Illan Meslier visits West Ham changing room after Leeds victory

Illan Meslier is yet to play a game for Leeds this season after being Farke’s number one in the Championship title-winning campaign last time out.

In fact, the Frenchman has only made Farke’s matchday squad on four occasions in all competitions, once again being left out against West Ham.

The Frenchman was at Elland Road on Friday night, though.

According to the YEP, Meslier made his way to West Ham’s changing room after Leeds’ 2-1 win.

Graham Smyth spotted the ex-Lorient goalkeeper walking through the mixed zone to wait outside of the Hammers’ makeshift headquarters on the night.

Smyth adds that he was likely waiting to catch up with ex-Leeds star Crysencio Summerville.

What is the current situation with Illan Meslier’s Leeds future?

It’s amazing that Meslier is still at Leeds because selling him in the summer would have been a great way to help the club’s PSR situation.

Meslier signed for Leeds from Lorient in July 2020 for £5million.

Five years on and over 240 senior appearances to his name, despite being only 25 years old, Meslier’s value should have risen quite a lot.

Inter Milan are reportedly keen on signing Meslier in January, meaning that there are still top clubs out there who are interested in the French goalkeeper.

Como bid £4.3m for Meslier in the summer. That move obviously didn’t materialise, likely due to the fact Leeds wanted more than the £5m they paid for him.

Unfortunately, the longer Meslier’s omission from matchday squads goes on, the more his value will drop and the less likely Leeds will be able to help their finances by cashing in on the shot-stopper.
