‘Exciting’, ‘Self before side’ – These fans react as Leeds tipped to sign £60k/wk PL ace in Jan

The (mainly unwanted) links between Leeds United and Danny Rose just won’t go away after the left-back was reported to be a player the club was interested in over the summer.

beIN Sports reporter Eric Krakauer said he would move to either Leeds, Newcastle or Leicester over the summer. In the end, he went nowhere.

Now, he’s been tipped to move to Leeds on a free by former Leeds star Paul Robinson. He told Football Insider: “I would take him at Leeds because obviously, there has been a number of defensive injuries.

“Leeds have had Stuart Dallas and [Ezgjan] Alioski playing there but to have someone like Danny Rose as part of the squad, on a free transfer, that would be a no brainer for anyone.”

He’s now been left out of the Tottenham squad and it’s said that he won’t play competitive football this season, unless he moves.

His current deal at Tottenham is up at the end of the season and that means he can talk to overseas clubs about a pre-contract move in January and move on a free in the summer.

However, FI have claimed Spurs are in talks to terminate his contract. That could see him move on a free in January.

We think the reason that the links with Rose crop up so much is because he started his career at the club and that he’s a natural left-back. That’s it.

Aside from that, he seems to be as far-removed from a Bielsa player as it’s possible to be.

His attitude has been questioned at Tottenham ever since a Sun interview when he hinted that he wanted to move.

That saw his career start to slide and it’s never recovered.

Plenty of Leeds fans have recognised this with one saying, “If there is one player that screams self before side it is Danny Rose.”

Another said that he would be behind Stuart Dallas, Gjanni Alioski and Leif Davis in the pecking order on the left.

Add his high wages, reported to be £60k-a-week at Spurs, and you’ve got a complete non-starter.

Rose to Leeds won’t happen – we can almost guarantee it – and the majority of these fans will be glad. There’s one dissenting voice, who said the prospect of seeing Danny Rose in a Leeds shirt was “exciting”. He’s very much the lone voice of support, though.

The rest? They’ll be happy to see him try to resurrect his career elsewhere…
