Beto transfer: Local journalist reacts to Leeds update from Sky Sports

Leeds United deservedly won the Championship title, as the West Yorkshire club were by far the top scorers in the second tier.

But Daniel Farke is keen to strengthen his forward line in preparation for next season’s Premier League, and the Whites have set their sights on a free transfer swoop for Jamie Vardy.

The Elland Road club will be desperate to survive in the top flight after winning 100 points in the Championship and pipping Burnley to the title thanks to their superior goal difference.

Sky Sports reported on Wednesday that Leeds are also keen on a move for Beto, who has notched seven goals in 27 Premier League appearances for Everton this term.

Everton developments complicate Leeds move for Beto

Leeds forward Joel Piroe finished the season as the Championship’s top scorer, but Farke is still keen on acquiring an upgrade.

However, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post (8 May), the Elland Road side will only be able to sign Beto if Everton sign a new striker and hand Dominic Calvert-Lewin a new contract.

Writing via his personal X account, Joe Donnohue says that while a deal for Beto is “unlikely”, it’s “not impossible”.

Beto could be an ideal signing for Leeds

Leeds have been handed a major stumbling block as they strive to sign Beto from the Toffees, but a move for the 27-year-old is not impossible.

If circumstances allow Farke’s side to make a move for the Guinea-Bissau international, he could prove to be exactly the sort of signing the Whites need as they look to ready themselves for Premier League survival.

With two years of Premier League experience to his name, Beto boasts the profile that Leeds need as they look to adjust from the Championship to the top tier.

Furthermore, the ex-Udinese man hit form at just the right time for David Moyes’ side, when they were still vying to retain their top-flight status soon after the Scot returned to the Goodison Park dugout.

The striker’s tendency to perform when the pressure is on could make him an ideal acquisition for Leeds, who could find themselves in the Premier League relegation battle next term.
