Everton back in talks with Leeds United for Wilfried Gnonto in last-gasp swoop

Leeds United are back in talks with Everton over a potential last-gasp deal for Wilfried Gnonto, according to Sky Sports News.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (1 September), journalist Lyall Thomas reports that the Toffees have returned for talks and are “not giving up” on signing the Italy international.

The Whites have maintained all summer that the19-year-old is not for sale, and recently reintegrated him into the squad after he apologised to the squad – scoring on his return in the 4-3 win over Ipswich.

“Everton are back in talks with Leeds over the signing of Wilfried Gnonto,” he wrote.

“They’re not giving up.

“Leeds have previously insisted he is not for sale.”

No chance

If Everton wanted to sign Gnonto so badly then they should have met the asking price we would have set in negotiations.

If we didn’t set one, then why they would think that we would now set one on the final day of the window when we have no time to find a replacement is beyond us.

Leeds United

Add to that the fact the player put this whole episode behind him and is now back on the pitch and playing well for Leeds, they should have left this one alone and moved on to other targets.

Now though if they’re so keen, then we should double our ask because of the inconvenience. Unless Daniel Farke is willing to let him go late on, then it’s a non-starter of a conversation.

Gnonto can’t be allowed to leave now after the public showing of strength we made on the situation, and the fact he’s back playing well tells you he has accepted that decision. Tough luck Toffees.
