Europa League club make loan move to sign Leeds 19y/o, want deal done by tomorrow – report
Aberdeen want to sign Leeds United striker Ryan Edmondson on loan before they take on Rangers tomorrow (Saturday), according to the Evening Express.
The newspaper claims that the Dons have made a move to sign the 19-year-old forward as they seek back-up for the injured Sam Cosgrove.
Cosgrove is out injured for at least eight weeks and Derek McInnes faces the prospect of facing Rangers this weekend with just one fit striker in his squad.
It is understood that Edmondson has been identified as someone who could be brought in to make the squad for the Scottish Premiership opener.
Edmondson has dropped down the pecking order at Elland Road over the last couple of years.
He was handed his senior debut against QPR at the back end of the 2017/18 season and once Marcelo Bielsa was in charge, he was named in the matchday squad in the Championship on five occasions, getting one appearance in the process.
However, Bielsa has not picked Edmondson in the first-team since May last year when he was an unused substitute for the 3-2 loss to Ipswich.
Edmondson is one of the more highly-rated young strikers at Elland Road but he had to undergo an operation before the football season was paused in March and that hindered his chances of getting into Bielsa’s team in the back-end of the campaign.
Aberdeen might be seen as taking a risk by moving for the young striker, especially as they plan to rush him into their first-team plans in just over 24 hours’ time.
But, if Edmondson stays fit, he has the chance to earn Europa League and top-flight experience for a well-run club in Scotland.
We wish him all the best.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign this player on a loan-to-buy basis.
