'Enjoyed watching you play for us' - Many Leeds fans react as 20y/o exit is confirmed

Leeds United fans have been wishing their best to Matthew Downing after the youngster revealed that he has left Elland Road to join Bradford Park Avenue.

Bradford PA announced on their official website this week that left-back Downing, 20, has joined them after spending 15 years on the books at Leeds.

Downing never made a first-team appearance for the Whites and never really came close to doing so as his move to the National League North suggests it was always going to be a struggle for him if he stayed at Thorp Arch.

Leeds have a great academy – one of the best in England – but there are more players who fail to make it at the club than those who do.

Unfortunately for Downing, one of the main reasons he has struggled to make it at Leeds is that he has had rotten luck with injuries.

Who knows where Downing would be at now if he didn’t break his leg last year? It was a massive setback for the youngster but at least he has been able to find himself a new club because some people struggle to get a contract elsewhere after being let go by a top side like Leeds.

We really hope that Downing can smash it at Bradford PA and begin to rise back through the football pyramid.

It will be tough for him and he’s going to be fully aware of that.

But a fresh start elsewhere could be enough to spark his career into life and that is what a lot of Leeds fans are hoping on Twitter:
