Emi Buendia transfer: Leeds United deal ‘on the table’ as internal talks begin

Leeds United attempted to bring Emi Buendia to Elland Road before the winter transfer window slammed shut earlier this month.

Given his relationship with Daniel Farke, working together during their very successful time at Norwich City, it was a move that made sense for all parties as the players minutes dwindled at Villa Park.

However, the Whites were left frustrated by Buendia’s reluctance to drop down to the Championship again, as per The Sun on Sunday, eventually joining Bayer Leverkusen on loan until the end of the season.

The 28-year-old has now made three appearances, two of which have come in the Bundesliga, but it seems Leeds could revisit a deal for the player once the summer window rolls around.

Leeds United still want Emi Buendia transfer

According to Ben Jacobs via TEAMtalk, sources have revealed that a move for Aston Villa’s loan star is not completely off the table despite him preferring a spell with Bayer Leverkusen this season.

The online source reports [11 February] that internal talks have begun over three other targets – Eduard Spertsyan, Gustavo Hamer and Manchester City’s James McAtee.

“Leeds United will prioritise signing a new No.10 this summer, with sources revealing that a move to sign Emi Buendia is not completely off the table and that internal talks have been held over three other targets,” Jacobs wrote.

Daniel Farke preparing for Premier League football

With Leeds sitting atop the Championship table after 31 matches, the team is in a brilliant position to win promotion back to the Premier League at the second time of asking.

They are two points ahead of Sheffield United, five points above Burnley and seven points above Sunderland, and Farke’s side can take great confidence from how the season is going.

Buendia would be an incredible addition to the squad if Leeds can secure promotion, even despite his inability to thrive under Unai Emery.

If he came to Elland Road, Farke would be able to build a squad around him, much like what the manager did with Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter last season.
