Emi Buendia to Leeds United stance shared as transfer update emerges

Leeds United believe Emi Buendia will be far more attracted by a move to La Liga than Elland Road, according to Graham Smyth.

The Aston Villa star has been heavily linked with a move to the Whites in January, though it is believed Buendia has little interest in dropping down to the Championship from the Premier League [Ben Jacobs].

Having played under Daniel Farke during their time at Norwich City together, there is a clear link between the two parties, with the 28-year-old yet to make a Premier League start this term.

However, writing via X [20 January], Smyth said: “Leeds currently think La Liga interest will prove too attractive for Buendia.

“But getting him or a player like him probably puts this team over the edge into winning-a-title-by-a-distance land, doesn’t it?”

Leeds United to miss out on Emi Buendia once again?

Having already seen a move for Buendia rejected by Aston Villa in the summer [The Square Ball], it looks as though Farke is set to miss out on one of his former stars yet again.

During his three seasons with the Canaries, the attacking midfielder notched 24 goals and 41 assists in 121 appearances, making him one of the most in-form Championship forwards in that period.

While Leeds have plenty of attackers in their lineup, there would be no harm in adding someone of Buendia’s calibre to the squad as they chase promotion to the Premier League.

After only making 11 substitute appearances in the Premier League this season, it seems strange that a player like Buendia would not favour a move elsewhere where he would become an integral part.

Farke is clearly a huge fan of the Argentine due to their history together, with his transfer likely pushing Brenden Aaronson to the bench for the second half of the season.

Only Joel Piroe has reached double digits in goal contributions in the Championship this term, leaving much to be desired from the supporting players around him.
