EFL club owner confirms Orta talks in Jan after Leeds fan asks if any contact made for players
Peterborough owner Darragh MacAnthony has confirmed that Leeds United director of football Victor Orta has held talks with Barry Fry this month.
A Leeds supporter asked MacAnthony on Twitter whether there had been any contact between the Whites and the League One club about signing players from them in the last 18 months.
MacAnthony revealed via his personal Twitter account that Orta had held discussions with Peterborough chairman Fry earlier this month.
“Yep think Victor and Baz spoke this window,” said MacAnthony. “Great respect between both our clubs.”
Peterborough have always been a club that have players coveted in the higher divisions.
Dwight Gayle, Britt Assombalonga and Jack Marriott are among some of the best former Posh players to have gone on to shine in the Championship while they have some good players there at London Road at the moment in Ivan Toney and Marcus Maddison.
Have Leeds tried to look into signing one of MacAnthony’s players this month?
Leeds have finished their business for January but you would imagine that someone like Toney would have taken their fancy.
The former Newcastle striker has scored 20 goals in 33 appearances so far this term and could have been someone on Orta’s radar to replace Eddie Nketiah before Jean-Kevin Augustin was eventually snapped up by the Whites on loan from RB Leipzig.
Maddison is also a decent player with him scoring 10 goals and assisting eight so far this season.
In other Leeds United news, this striker is on his way out of Leeds after tagging his location close to a linked club.
