Eduard Spertsyan shares if he’s spoken to Farke amid Leeds United transfer links

Eduard Spertsyan was a name linked to Leeds United late in the transfer window.

The Krasnodar attacking midfielder was a name mentioned by Russian journalist Ivan Karpov as a player interesting Leeds in the final days of the window.

The 24-year-old is a player well known to Leeds boss Daniel Farke who previously had a spell in charge of Krasnodar back in 2022.

Now, Spertsyan himself has spoken about those links and revealed whether he has held talks with his former manager about a switch to West Yorkshire.

Spertsyan open to Leeds United move but yet to talk to Farke

In an interview with Russian online outlet Championat (12 February), Spertsyan admitted that he is looking to leave Krasnodar.

He revealed there has been interest from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, Ajax, Girona, and Lens as he angles to make a move.

When asked specifically about Leeds United, he confirmed a switch to the Championship leaders is something that would interest him, saying: “Why not? They will most likely get into the Premier League, they are in first place. But Krasnodar is also in first place. Yes, I want to leave, but I can’t leave the club. For them to let me go in the winter, the offer must be very good, and the club must have a great desire to take me. This winter, that’s exactly what didn’t happen.

However, he admitted he has yet to speak to Daniel Farke about completing a transfer to Leeds, with the outlet reporting he said “no” after a “long pause” and with a “laugh”.

Leeds transfer business depends on Premier League promotion

This was a move that sort of came out of nowhere as the deadline approached but you can see why two and two was put together, even if in reality it may have made five.

For a long time now, Leeds have been reportedly chasing a new number 10 – including links to Aston Villa ace Emi Buendia before he joined Bayer Leverkusen – to provide competition for Brenden Aaronson, a player who still splits opinion among the fanbase and came frustrate and delight in equal measure.

The links to Spertsyan certainly make sense on paper given he is a player well known to Farke and if there is even any semblance of truth to the calibre of club linked to his services then why would Leeds not fancy bringing him to Elland Road?

Still, though, it remains to be seen if this is an avenue the Whites will pursue in the summer and, obviously, a lot will depend on whether they can get over the line in the race for Championship promotion.

The truth is that until it is known for sure what league they are in next season, most transfer talk involving Leeds can probably be taken with a pinch of salt.
