Door still open for Leeds to strike ‘perfect’ Artem Dovbyk signing amid fresh Italian update

Leeds United have emerged as a potential candidate to sign Artem Dovbyk this summer.

The striker hit 17 goals for Roma last season, having also been prolific in front of goal for Spanish side Girona back in 2023/24.

Leeds are already understood to have made contact for Dovbyk, as they close in on a deal which could potentially have a pivotal effect on how their campaign plays out.

A striker has been outlined as one of the top transfer priorities at Elland Road this summer, and Daniel Farke’s appear to have their man in their sights.

Leeds to move quickly as Besiktas ‘in the front line’ for Dovbyk

It is imperative that Leeds find somebody capable of providing support for Joel Piroe this summer, and Dovybk could be the perfect addition to their forward line.

The Ukrainian is a well-rounded frontman who poses a major goal threat, as well as the ability to hold the ball up and bring others into play.

Farke and Co. have been no strangers to having to compete with other clubs for players this summer, and it looks as though they must prepare for another transfer battle on this occasion.

Turkish giants Besiktas have now been named as the club who are “in the front line” for Dovbyk, according to Tutto Mercato Web (1 August).

Despite being named as the current frontrunners, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are still thought to be “far from a concrete negotiation,” meaning the door remains open for the Whites to move quickly and get a deal done.

West Ham are also outlined as another interested party, as are Villarreal, who are thought to be in the market for a new striker.

It has also been noted that Dovbyk’s strengths do not align with the desires of new boss Gian Piero Gasperini.

Leeds must stump up the cash for Dovbyk

It seems as though Leeds will have to pay a fee in the region of £34.5million if they want to sign Dovbyk, and they shouldn’t be hesitant to spend that kind of money on the 28-year-old.

He now has a proven goal record behind him in both Spain and Italy, so he should be ready to take on a new challenge in the Premier League.

The 49ers haven’t shied away from spending money this summer, and they must be prepared to get the chequebook out again for the Roma man.

They could live or die by their ability to recruit a new striker this term, so the fact that Dovbyk would undoubtedly be the most expensive arrival of their summer so far should not be a necessary concern.
