Done deal: Leeds United exit complete for Jay Buchan as Sheffield Wednesday agree transfer
Sheffield Wednesday have completed a deal to sign Jay Buchan, who joins them from Leeds United, the Owls have confirmed.
The South Yorkshire side announced on their official website on 11 July that Buchan, 18, has agreed terms at Hillsborough with Ryan Wilson also joining him from Blackburn.
Sheffield Wednesday confirm that Buchan was in their squad for a pre-season friendly with York City at the weekend and he’s joining them officially after completing a scholarship at Elland Road.

Speaking about the deal, the defensive midfielder: “It’s a pleasure to sign my first contract and I just want to work hard.
“I play anywhere in the midfield, I’m up and down and want to create chances and stop goals as well.
“I was around the first team on the weekend which was great and it’s a big drive.
“I just want to get my head down for the Under-21s and hopefully push towards the first team.”
Good luck, Jay
We doubt that Buchan will be breaking into Xisco Munoz’s first team at Sheffield Wednesday next season.
Last term, the Bradford-born midfielder played 13 times in the Under-18s Premier League for Leeds and even got a game for the Under-21s in Premier League 2.
For that to happen, there must be something about the 18-year-old starlet.

However, first-team football in the Championship is a massive step up from that youth level that he’d been playing at at Thorp Arch with the Whites.
Sheffield Wednesday are a newly-promoted side in the Championship and won’t be taking any risks with personnel.
It’s likely that Buchan could be loaned out but he’s taken quite a measured approach and expects to be playing for Sheffield Wednesday’s Under-21s, which shows a good, grounded mentality that youngsters need in football these days.
We wish Buchan all the best in South Yorkshire but we hope that he doesn’t come back to haunt us any time soon.
In other Leeds United news, a medical has been scheduled for Wednesday for the Whites to complete their first summer signing.
