Dominic Calvert-Lewin associates were stuck in fear before Leeds United transfer
Leeds United have struck gold with Dominic Calvert-Lewin this season.
Calvert-Lewin signed for Leeds in August 2025, after seeing his nine-year stint with Everton come to an end.
However, Calvert-Lewin’s injury history was a major red flag for many Leeds supporters, with the England international having only played over 30 games for Everton once over the last four seasons.
Calvert-Lewin had a nightmare debut against Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup back in August, with some Whites fans already writing him off as a bust signing at that point.
But the 28-year-old has turned his fortunes around in West Yorkshire since then, and he’s now indisputably become one of Daniel Farke‘s best and most crucial players.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s associates feared Leeds opportunity wouldn’t come
Calvert-Lewin is now well on his way to re-establishing himself as one of the top centre-forwards in the Premier League this season.
Few people had that on their bingo cards for the 2025-26 campaign, but the big striker now has nine goals in 20 league outings to his name.
On Monday night, he will have the chance to show why Everton should never have let him leave Merseyside last summer, as Leeds travel to the Hill Dickinson Stadium in an 8 pm kick-off.

So impressive has he been this term that Calvert-Lewin is already attracting transfer interest away from Elland Road this winter, despite signing a three-year contract with Leeds last August.
However, in a fresh report from The Athletic, numerous people close to Calvert-Lewin have been revealed to have feared for him when it came to getting another big opportunity after leaving Everton.
“There had been concern from some of those familiar with Calvert-Lewin’s situation, speaking anonymously to The Athletic to protect relationships, that the high-level interest would not necessarily come or that he would be deemed too expensive,” the report states.
“He ended last season still working his way back to fitness and trained alone until his move to Leeds in mid-August.”
How much might Calvert-Lewin be worth now?
With Leeds pushing to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen this winter, that could be a sign that Elland Road chiefs are very concerned about losing Calvert-Lewin in the near future.
On the flip side, Farke doesn’t have much quality and proven depth at the centre-forward position behind his number nine, so it could also just be seen as taking advantage of a can’t-miss opportunity.
Either way, what is universally acknowledged is that should Calvert-Lewin be sold either before the 2 February deadline or in the summer, he would fetch a high price.
- Calvert-Lewin scored 71 times in 273 games for Everton
- He’s scored four goals in 11 caps for England
- He’s averaging 0.58 goals per 90 in the Premier League this season
He will have turned 29 by the end of the season, but with two-years remaining on his deal come the summer, Leeds should still feel confident they could get anywhere between £30-40million for him.
Should he continue his scoring form for the rest of the campaign, he may well be heading to the World Cup, and with several good years left in him, a top team would surely be willing to spend that kind of money on a double-digit Premier League scorer.
No matter what, Leeds will be looking to keep him.
