Diogo Monteiro completes Leeds United medical, he’s set to replace Diego Llorente at Elland Road – Fabrizio Romano
Servette defender Diogo Monteiro has completed his medical at Leeds United ahead of a move from Elland Road, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Guardian journalist reported via his personal Twitter account on 30 January that Monteiro, 18, is arriving in West Yorkshire to replace Diego Llorente, who’s set to join Serie A side Roma.
It is understood that Leeds’ flurry of late business also includes a move for Juventus’ Weston McKennie, who’s due to have his own medical at Leeds.
All change
We didn’t expect to see this happening this month.
Llorente has only just signed a new contract at Leeds but it seems like that was brilliant business by Victor Orta, who probably pumped up the Spanish centre-back’s value quite a lot.
Llorente’s form has been poor this season while his spell at Elland Road has also been fraught with injury issues.
Offloading him and signing Monteiro seems like very good business because our centre-back options are fairly good in the senior side now.

Robin Koch, Liam Cooper, Pascal Struijk and January signing Max Wober are all better than Llorente while we also have Charlie Cresswell, Leo Hjelde and – soon – Monteiro as younger options.
We’re well stocked there so could see one or two of them leave in the next 24 hours or so too. Or we could see the likes of Cresswell, Hjelde and Monteiro loaned out in the summer.
Either way, Leeds have done well here.
Orta is getting rid of a player who hasn’t been doing well enough and we assume he’s bringing in a decent wad of cash too.
And in Monteiro, we have what looks like a very good prospect.
