Diego Llorente waits and hopes in brand new Leeds United transfer update
Diego Llorente is hoping to seal another loan from Leeds United to Roma this summer, according to Corriere Dello Sport.
The newspaper has reported in its print edition [page 7, 3 June] that the defender is hoping the Whites’ failure to earn Premier League promotion will help facilitate his continued stay in the Italian capital.
Llorente joined Roma on loan in January 2023, a deal which is set to expire at the end of June and he is currently waiting and hoping.
Should Leeds United allow Diego Llorente to remain on loan at Roma?
Leeds’ failure to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking has left the club in a financially precarious position.
Their 1-0 defeat against Southampton at Wembley in the Championship playoff final – following their slip out of the automatic promotion places – means the Whites are now likely to be forced to sell several senior stars to help balance their books.
Additionally, prospective incomings are likely to be affected, with the club’s hopes to retain impressive loanees such as Joe Rodon now cast in doubt.
If Rodon proves too expensive to purchase permanently, a gap will open up in the Whites’ defence that Daniel Farke will need to fill – and simply using Llorente could be a cost-effective method of solving that problem.

However, the Spaniard’s desire is clearly to remain in Italy and it is unlikely that bringing an unhappy player into the fold will bolster Leeds’ promotion hopes in 2024/25.
In light of that, a departure – whether permanent or temporary – appears to be the best outcome for all parties this summer.
