Diego Llorente development emerges ahead of Leeds United transfer before July 8

Real Betis are advancing negotiations for Leeds United defender Diego Llorente ahead of a move this summer, according to Diario ABC.

The Spanish outlet reported on 1 July that Betis would like Llorente as part of the team before 8 July.

This comes after the La Liga side have already added Marc Roca to their ranks [Fabrizio Romano, 28 June] following a successful loan spell last season.

Why Diego Llorente leaving Leeds United is a positive thing

For the last 18 months, the former Real Sociedad man has spent his time away from the club and has played his trade for Roma.

The Spaniard has played a fairly consistent role for the Italian side but evidently, they didn’t see enough to persuade them to keep him long-term.

Granted, Leeds need defensive reinforcement themselves but having Llorente within their ranks would likely hinder rather than help their promotion hopes.

The centre-back doesn’t want to play for the club no matter which league they’re in so the £3.8million fee that they will receive [Info Real Betis, 1 July] is more useful than what the player would be himself.

In addition, Llorente’s departure could help the Whites convince Max Wober to stay and try to gain promotion with the side.

The Austria international has performed much better throughout the last season and would be of a similar quality to what Joe Rodon showed last term.
