Diego Llorente closes in on Leeds United exit as new transfer update emerges
Real Betis are edging ever closer to a deal to sign Diego Llorente from Leeds United, according to Marca.
The newspaper reported via their online edition [6 July] that Manuel Pellegrini wants the former Real Madrid man as a Betis player before 10 July.
The report also goes on to detail that a switch can be made for a fee of around £3.3million despite negotiations breaking down previously due to a low fee.
Why Leeds United should cut their losses and let Diego Llorente go
Ever since Llorente departed West Yorkshire for Roma 18 months ago, fans haven’t seen the 30-year-old as a Leeds player.
He played a regular role for the Serie A giants but evidently, they didn’t see enough from him to warrant making a bid.
Although some fans might have wanted the defender to return to Elland Road and try to help them battle for promotion, now Joe Rodon has returned, there simply isn’t a place for him.
Especially since the future of Max Wober is up in the air [Rheinische Post, 26 June] as Borussia Monchengladbach has also failed to make a bid for the Austria international despite him spending last term on loan with the club.

The likes of Pascal Struijk and Ethan Ampadu are also amongst Leeds’ ranks so they have plenty of options to rely upon.
Indeed, one more centre-back would likely be ideal for the Whites, especially since Liam Cooper’s future is still undecided.
The fee raised by Llorente’s sale could be put straight back into the team and boost the West Yorkshire outfit’s chances of bringing in some quality players during their bid for promotion.
